Abby is planning on pursuing a career in contemporary dance and is grateful for all of the experience that NCB has given her.
This past summer, Hannah participated in summer intensive training with the Victoria Academy of Ballet (3 weeks) under the instruction of Mr. Andrew Pronger, Ms. KerryLynn Turner, and Ms. Bleiddyn Del Villar Bellis, and with the Nanaimo Contemporary Ballet Youth Company (1 week) with Ms. Nicole Caron, Ms. Deanna Peters, and Ms. Genevieve Johnson.
Hannah’s passion for ballet is evident in her work ethic and professional attitude which was rewarded this past year with the Joy Camden Award. In addition, her Modern Interpretive ‘Cuckoo’ presentation of Ms. Sarah Switzer’s choreography earned her the 2018 Ballet Adjudicator’s choice award at the Upper Island Music Festival.
Hannah, who in her final year of high school, will be challenging her R.A.D. Adv 1 and Intermediate Cecchetti exams this year. As well, she will be participating in festivals with her repertoire, pointe, young choreographer, modern, and contemporary pieces. Hannah loves learning Repertoire and enjoys the movement of Martha Graham. The 2018/2019 NCB Season will be Hannah’s first year with the company.
My name is Jessica Langelier and I am a 16 year old dancer from Nanaimo, BC. I have trained with Kirkwood Academy of Performing Arts for 11 years. I love training in every genre of dance available to me including ballet, pointe, modern, contemporary, jazz, tap and hiphop. I am very passionate about dance as my future career and am enrolled in KAPP, Kirkwood Academy’s Pre-Professional program. I am in my fourth year with Helix Dance Theatre and third year with Nanaimo Contemporary Ballet.
Along with my core dance training, I trained with Andrea Bertram vocal studio and performed in the musical theatre productions of Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Seussical and Nutcracker. I have also toured to California, New York and Florida with the Kirkwood Youth Dance Company.
I have been fortunate to train in the summers with various professional schools including the School of Alberta Ballet (2014), Joffrey West LA (2015), Joffrey NYC (2016) the Joffrey contemporary ballet intensive in San Francisco (2017) and this past summer I trained at Hubbard Street Dance in Chicago, IL.
In June 2018 I was also very honoured to participate as an intermediate modern representative at the Performing Arts Festival in Victoria.
I am so excited to see what dance opportunities lie ahead of me as a performer and choreographer and am honoured to be a part of NCB once again.

Kaelin’s favourite genres of dance are contemporary, modern and ballet. She also loves being exposed to a wide variety of styles of dance including African, Tap and Jazz.
Rachel has attended the Josh Beamish “Move” summer intensive in 2016 and the Arts Umbrella international summer intensive in 2017. Rachel also travelled to Disneyland to dance in 2014 and to New York to dance in 2017 with Dance the Magic summer programs.
Rachel can’t wait to return to NCB for her second year so she can pursue her passion for contemporary dance and further improve her artistry and technique.
Over the past few years, in addition to her studio training, Sydney trained for 2 seasons with MEM DanceCo and also spends time training and learning choreography with one of her favorite mentors, Monica Proenca. She has also trained with many other talented artists and choreographers at the NCB and Helix Dance Theatre Intensives.
Sydney has received scholarships to attend dance conventions in the Pacific Northwest, San Diego, California and Long Beach, California, where she has trained and learned choreography from some of North America’s most renowned choreographers.
She was also awarded a scholarship to the The Hollywood Summer Tour. Sydney was honored to represent in the Intermediate Stage category at the 2017 BC Provincial Festival of Arts.
Sydney is currently training in her second year at Kirkwood Academy of Performing Arts and is an Advanced Member of the Kirkwood Academy Preprofessional Program under the artistic direction of Chantelle Norris. Sydney attributes Chantelle’s dedicated teaching to the strengthening of her ballet technique and to her newfound love of ballet.
Sydney plans to pursue dance professionally as a contemporary or jazz artist and as a choreographer.
She is excited to be dancing this year with Nanaimo Contemporary Ballet and looks forward to training, performing and learning new choreography with Chantelle and the many other amazing guest artists at NCB.
For the past 3 years, Tallia had the opportunity to study in Toronto at the National Ballet School.
Tallia is incredibly grateful to be a part of NCB. Artistic Director, Chantelle Norris, has truly inspired her to keep working hard and grow as a dancer. Tallia thanks her family for helping her achieve her goals and dreams.
Abigail began her dance career at the age of 3 in highland dance lessons. She went on dance at the Championship level, winning multiple Championship and Premiership titles in Canada and internationally. From Port Hardy, Abigail now studies ballet in the pre-professional program with Kirkwood Academy, and has successfully completed her Grade 7 RAD ballet exams with Distinction. She also dances with Prism Dance Connections and is a member of their Performance Team.
A triple-threat performer, Abigail studies classical voice and musical theatre with the Andrea Bertram studio. In 2018 she attended the Broadway Artists Alliance summer intensive in New York and studied with numerous Tony-winning actors. She also was a participant in the 2018 Arts Club Musical Theatre Junior Intensive in Vancouver. Abigail was a 2018 Junior Stage dance representative to the BC Provincials as well as a 2018 Classical Voice merited participant.
This is Abigail’s first year with Nanaimo Contemporary Ballet and she looks forward to working with the amazing teachers and choreographers associated with the company this year.
Neisha deJong-Pedlow is 12 years old. She started doing Hip-Hop at a studio called Soul Fire in Ladysmith. In 2011, Soul Fire was bought out and turned into Rhythm Dance Academy, there was no Hip-Hop option for Neisha so instead she did Jazz and Ballet. When she was 7 she auditioned for RWB’s Canadian Nutcracker and got a role as a Polar Bear. In 2014 she started modern, and in the summer of 2015 she performed with Dance The Magic in Disneyland. After that she left Rhythm and joined Kirkwood Academy Of Performing Arts. In 2016, she auditioned and was accepted into Kirkwood Academy Pre-professional Program (KAPP) directed by Chantelle Norris. Since then Neisha has practiced the following dance styles: Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Modern Stage, Musical Theatre and Commercial Jazz. Through out her dance career she has entered many festivals with group numbers and Solos and has won various awards. Just recently she auditioned and was accepted into RWB’s Canadian Nutcracker once again but this time as a Reindeer. Neisha is extremely excited to be a part of NCB as an apprentice member this year.
Peer is currently training at Kirkwood Dance Academy and eventually hopes to have a career in dance.
This will be Peer’s first season with NCB, and he is very excited to be a part of “Close|Apart.”
Robyn is a first year apprentice with Nanaimo Contemporary Ballet. She attends Kirkwood Academy of Performing Arts and is a 4th year student in their Pre-Professional program. She studies Classical Ballet under the guidance of Chantelle Norris (Artistic Director KAPP Division) and Carole Martyn (KAPP Director). She is a dancer, martial artist (Kurt Nordli, Sensei Shima Karate) and actor. ‘Love Under The Stars’ (2015) “Mark and Russells Wild Ride” (2015).
Before persuing her dance career Robyn trained at Spotlight Academy 2014-2016 with Jacqui Kaese (Artistic director, Acting Coach & Founder). In 2015 Robyn performed in A Kirkwood Production of The Nutcracker and went on to join Kirkwood Youth Dance Company to perform in The Disneyland 60th Anniversary Dance the Magic Parade.
Robyn has earned many honours for stage, acting and dance including Kirkwood Academy’s 2016 Modern Stage award and 2017 Ballet Award, 2018 adjudicators Choice (Natali Reznik) Just Dance Challenge, Distinction in all graded Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Exams. Robyn has worked with many special guest artists Danielle Castle, Matthew Cluff (Les Grands Ballet Canadiens) and furthers her training by attending adjudicator workshops and master classes including Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Canada’s National Ballet, Alberta Ballet, and summer intensives with Vibrant Dance Studio (2016) Nanaimo Contemporary Ballet (2017, 2018)), Prism Dance Connections (2018).
Robyn is continuously striving to expand her artistic capabilities and is very excited to be a part of NCB this year.
Stella’s love and passion for dance has grown over the past 10 years that she has been dancing at Kirkwood.
