My name is Maren Turner, I am twelve years old. I started dancing when I was three years old in Campbell River, BC. Ballet class has always been my favourite place to be. As I’ve grown and become more passionate about dance, I dream of a future as a professional in the area of ballet. I have been fortunate enough to train at Kirkwood Academy’s Pre-professional Program with Miss Chantelle Norris and Miss Carole Martyn. I love that I get to spend so much time in the ballet studio working on my technique. There is so much for me to learn and I feel myself getting stronger each year. I’ve been lucky enough to attend Canada’s National Ballet School summer program for the past three year. This past summer I was honoured to also attend the School of American Ballet’s Young Dancers Workshop.
My first taste of Nanaimo Contemporary Ballet was experiencing the summer intensives with my sister Molly in preparation the dance seasons ahead. We have both enjoyed and learned so much from our NCB summer intensives and met so many great friends from all over the island. I’m so excited to grow artistically and learn over the course of the year with NCB. I would like to thank all of my dance teachers in my life for their encouragement and my mom and dad for helping me work towards achieving my dream. Miss Chantelle Norris, thank you for the amazing opportunity for me to grow as a dancer.
